MODERN LIVING. ROOTED IN HOME.

At Mi Casa Designs, we believe your home should be as vast as the California landscape and as intimate as a family dinner. Our design philosophy bridges the gap between clean, modern lines and the raw, tactile soul of the ranch. We don’t just fill rooms; we curate environments where hand-troweled plaster meets heritage wood, and where every light-filled corner invites you to slow down.

Philosophy

Every project is approached with a commitment to Organic Refinement. By pairing architectural simplicity with natural materials—like white oak, stone, and woven textures—we orchestrate homes that resonate with authenticity. Whether we are building from the ground up or breathing new life into a storied property, we prioritize quality that ages beautifully alongside your family.

The Mi Casa Experience

Led by a lifelong passion for spatial harmony and the practical insight of a mother of two, the design process is both intuitive and meticulous. Welcome to a world where artistry and everyday elegance coexist—welcome to Mi Casa Designs.

The Vision: Designed to blur the line between the indoors and the rolling hills beyond, this residence is a study in quiet luxury. The goal was to create a "livable sanctuary"—a space that feels expansive and architectural, yet warm enough for family game nights. We anchored the room with a massive, hand-troweled plaster fireplace and softened the modern black-steel windows with layers of organic texture.

Key Design Elements:

  • Architectural Soul: Reclaimed white oak beams draw the eye upward, mirroring the natural tones of the landscape outside.

  • The Palette: A grounded mix of oatmeal linen, saddle leather, and warm plaster that changes color with the afternoon sun.

  • Livable Details: The custom curved sectional is upholstered in high-performance fabric, proving that white furniture can exist in a home with children and pets.

  • Curated Touch: Built-in white oak niches display a collection of vintage clay pottery and artisan vessels, adding a sense of history to a new build.

In this project, the landscape was the lead designer. We wanted the dining room to feel like an open-air pavilion, where the golden hues of the California hills become the artwork on the walls. This space was designed for connection—long Sunday brunches and holiday dinners where the view changes with the light. We balanced the industrial edge of the floor-to-ceiling steel windows with the softness of woven textures and warm woods to ensure the space felt grounded, not cold.

Key Design Elements:

  • The Focal Point: A dramatic, oversized woven pendant light that anchors the room and adds a touch of organic, ranch-inspired texture to the high ceilings.

  • Material Contrast: We paired the sleek, polished concrete floors with a custom white oak dining table to create a conversation between modern durability and natural warmth.

  • Architectural Balance: The black steel window frames provide a striking, modern grid that contrasts beautifully with the soft, hand-troweled plaster walls.

  • Livable Luxury: The upholstered dining chairs were chosen for both silhouette and comfort, inviting guests to linger long after the meal is finished.

Even the most functional corners of a home should feel intentional. In this wet bar, we focused on "quiet luxury"—the tactile experience of everyday rituals. We moved away from stark whites, opting instead for a soothing, monochromatic palette of putty and taupe that allows the natural materials to shine.

Key Design Elements:

  • Sculptural Hardware: The focal point is the high-arc faucet in a brushed antique bronze finish. Its curved, minimalist silhouette acts as "jewelry" against the clean lines of the backsplash.

  • Organic Textures: We warmed up the sleek, matte quartz countertops with light white oak cabinetry, ensuring the space feels earthy rather than clinical.

  • Styled for Life: The vignette is finished with functional decor—a round wooden serving board, handmade speckled ceramics, and a vase of eucalyptus—bringing life and a pop of natural green to the neutral corner.

Meet Ashley Garrett

Curator of Natural, Modern, and Livable Spaces

Design hasn’t just been a career for me; it’s been the lens through which I’ve seen the world since I was a little girl rearranging furniture in my childhood bedroom. That lifelong obsession with how a space feels has evolved into a signature style that balances crisp modernism with the grounded, tactile beauty of the ranch.

As a mom, I understand that a home can’t just be a museum—it has to be the backdrop for real life. It’s where the messy, beautiful moments happen. My philosophy is rooted in "Organic Refinement": creating high-end, curated environments that feel at home in nature, durable enough for family life but elevated enough to be a true sanctuary.

I believe your home should be your greatest inspiration. Whether we’re building from the ground up or breathing new life into a storied property, my goal is to deliver a design that feels like a natural extension of who you are.
